Hi, and welcome to Shady Nook Alpacas and Shady Nook Farm Store website. We hope you will find it educational, interesting and fun. We have included photos of our alpacas, our farm and our handmade alpaca products.

Shady Nook Alpacas started in Annapolis, Maryland in 2003 when we purchased our first four females. In the Spring of 2005, we decided to increase our herd and found our new farm in Powhatan, Virginia. By careful breeding decisions and thoughtful purchases we have acquired some of the top bloodlines available. Our goal is to develop a herd where each individual alpaca represents the highest standards in health, confirmation, and fiber production.

On Our Herd page (females and males) we have included great photos of our alpacas and full descriptions, including bloodlines. We have Alpacas for Sale and can assist you in starting your own herd with a great starter package.

Our Herdsires have been chosen based on well known bloodlines, positive characteristics, such as, confirmation, fiber quality and temperament.

Prior to being a full time alpaca farmer and breeder, Ken worked many years in the insurance industry and for the U.S. Postal Service. Lois has been a residential real estate appraiser for twenty years and has assisted Ken with farm management and chores.

Recently, we have focused on making finished alpaca products with the beautiful fiber our alpacas produce. We participate in craft shows and other events.
